GAME BIT | Relive your childhood with the SEGA Classic Hub Update

SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis fans can now relive their childhood with SEGA’s Classic Hub Update.

SEGA will be releasing a cool update for SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis game owners on Steam. The update, called the Mega Drive/Genesis Classics Hub, adds a Nineties kids style room, decked with a CRT TV, a shelf full of SEGA games and retro SEGA paraphernalia. The CRT TV will essentially be the place where you plug in and start up your classic games. Check out the announcement trailer:

The update, available 28th April 2016, will be free for current Mega Drive/Genesis emulated game owners. Emulators for the old SEGA games have been around on Steam since 2011, but this update will just add a ton of cool to the games.

The update will also feature:

  • spot-on emulation
  • local co-op for supported games
  • optional graphic enhancement filters
  • the ability to save at any point in the gameplay (OK I’m sold)
  • full controller / keyboard support

There are a plethora of games that will be accessible through the hub upon release, with notable classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and Toejam and Earl. For a full list, check out the SEGA announcement here.

If this doesn’t bring back nostalgic memories of the neon-lit Nineties and plasters a cheesy grin to your face, nothing will.
