TALKING THRONES | GAME OF THRONES S06E01 – ‘The Red Woman’ Review

So where do we go from here?

The television series has for the first time overtaken George RR Martin’s original novels. Finally, both book readers and TV viewers are on equal ground in terms of knowledge to the plot at hand. Working off George RR Martin’s eventual planned ending for the books, show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are crafting this whole new mythology for both audiences.

Yesterday’s GAME OF THRONES S06E01 entitled ‘The Red Woman’ seeks to address this new frontier by recapping each character’s current predicament and empowering them with a new sense of purpose. It’s a whole new world out there, folks!

In This Week’s Episode:

At Castle Black, Ser Davos Seaworth, Melisandre and Jon’s band of loyal Night’s Watch allies protects Jon Snow’s corpse from Ser Alliser Thorne and the rest of the Night’s Watch. They have until nightfall before 40 armed Night’s Watch descends upon them for the corpse of He Who Knows Nothing. One of Snow’s Night’s Watch allies slips away in the night to go get some Wildling support.

In Winterfell, Roose Bolton berates Ramsay for letting Sansa Stark and Theon escape. Ramsay’s hounds were this close to capturing them until the virtuous Brienne of Tarth and her reluctant squire, Podrick came along to save the day. With Brienne now under sworn fealty to Sansa Stark, I look forward to seeing how this story arc pans out! #TheNorthRemembers
At King’s Landing, a mourning Jamie Lannister returns with the body of his dead child, Myrcella. The recently shamed and broken Cersei takes this as another hard blow befallen upon House Lannister. Meanwhile in the Sept of Baelor, Margaery and Loras Tyrell are still held captive until they stand trial for their crimes against common decency – at the hands of The High Sparrow and Septa Unella.

In Dorne, weak Prince Doran, his heir Trystane Martell and Royal Guard Areo Hotah were brutally murdered by the vengeful widow of the Red Viper – Ellaria Sand and her band of Viper bitches – the Sand Snakes. She might have the support of the common folk, but will Ellaria Sand’s rise to power be accepted by the ruling class of House Martell and the rest of Dorne?
At Meereen, Tyrion Lannister and the Spider (Lord Varys) laments the loss of Daenerys Targaryen. As Meereen’s navy ships lies burning at the docks by the Sons of the Harpy, can Tyrion and the Spider hope to consolidate power again (with the help of Grey Worm and Missandei) before the Khaleesi returns?

Lastly, a broken and beaten Daenerys Targaryen is brought across the Great Grass Sea to Khal Moro, where it is decreed that as the widow of a Khal, she should be sent to Vaes Dothrak – to live out the rest of her days with the widows of other great Khals. Blind Arya’s education continues at the House of Black and White on Braavos as she takes a beating from Jaqen H’ghar’s star pupil (the waif) with promise of more pain in the future. #EvolveOrDie
